Depict Evaluation
Are task was a 90 second short for Depict!
( Depict is open to short films of all production techniques, including animation, documentary, drama, experimental or artist film and hybrid work)
- Are idea was to have a single peso who was going speed dating and had a bad experience with multiple different kinds of people
We had to complete various pre-production documents such as:
- Location recces.
- Location releases.
- Talent releases.
- Budget sheet.
- Prop/costume list.
- Shot list.
- Storyboards.
- Script.(it changed multiple times)
- Risk assessment.
- Production schedules.
Are planning did have changes throughout the filming, most notably the script which was pretty much abandoned as we realised it would be far to long and wouldn't fit into 90 seconds and even are massively reduced script we had to cut bits out to fit it into the 90 seconds. All the characters that were planned for stayed the same except from the boring person as it just didn't fit so got switched out for a gangster kind of character as it was more inline with the vision we had.
I think that the lighting is the best part of our 90 second short I think that the best lighting manipulation was created by accident when a light was having some malfunctioned then we realised that it would make a real nice shot so we quickly took some inspiration from the joker scene and made are own on the spot and it ended up working really well and created a nice change to the already nice uniform lighting. If I was going to do this again I would make the video have more angles just to add a bit of interest and to just switch up simple style that we ended up with.
The thing that I enjoyed most was learning on how to use all the equipment and learning the editing software properly. Their wasn't anything that I really disliked about the projects that were not problems that we created with scripts even if the equipment problems was a bit annoying.
Praised aspects from the group:

Praised aspects from the group:
- Acting performance was good.
- Shadow and lighting in joker like scene.
- Variation in the music, different each character.
- Funny dialogue.
- The clock shots.
Areas for improvement from the group:
- Have more shot variation.
- Have some context for the dog was a bit abrupt.
- Minor sound differences, get the levels the same or near to one another.

Initial Planning:Idea Generation
Idea 1:
a journey, the journey having 1 main objective could be they are out to find something that has been tipped off to them by a person and they are on the hunt to find the mystery item.-multiple people in the hunt for the mystery item.
-multiple shoots with a possibility of having a split screen action of the hunt.so you can follow both who don't 100% know where they are going but both end up arriving at the same time.
feedback:
-turn it onto more of a race for the item so two friends are told of the item and they both set off in the hunt for the mystery item and have to bring it back to a locationIdea 2:
violence,an attack on someone who does one thing different but ends up changing other peoples views on life.- one main person with a couple attackers .
- you could use a variety of different angles and shoot types for example a close up to show the pain that they feel.
-the person who is attacked chanels that energy into changing lives of overs.
feedback:
-needs to have meaning that comes accross easily to the audience .
-needs to have a simple but complex story that shows emotion in the beggining but happiness at the end with the person who has been attacked being a local hero.

Depict Research
Will you remember?-2016,
Using multiple photos to create the video instead of just recording video to
show that you don’t remember every action and just snippets, only true video is
when the kid is asked the question at the end. Sound is used through the use of
spoken voice of the people in shot talking about themselves with a quiet song
in the background.
The
launderette-not spoken but powerful, simple lighting, simple narrative,
Run boy-2016,
the story wraps back around to the start, camera work at the start shows that
the mother has the power, sound is used when the kid is battling his inner snot
monster and for simple quick movements, the editing helps the piece flow
without being jumpy and keeps continuity.
Family
Dinner-2017,the small talk that ends up into a secret being revelled by a
sibling causing anger and the use at the end of the head slap
Fallen together-2001,the
switch from young to old off camera with a simple love story
The end-2002,the
globe controls the world
